LEBANON, TN - Fresh off a rebuild, including a new front and rear clip and a new body, Morgan Shepherd's Chevrolet Impala SS performed just as expected during its first outing at Nashville Superspeedway.
"It was pretty bad," Shepherd said of the car's handling. "Unfortunately, anytime you have to rebuild a car like we did you lose all of the data that you had gained. You have to start all over with the chassis setup and see what the car does because it is a whole different car."
Shepherd was relegated to a 39th place starting position and managed to squeek out a 31st place finish despite being involved in a chain-reaction collision which smashed the car's nose and hood. The finish put the team in 28th place in the owner's points race and actually vaulted Shepherd forward to 21st place in the driver standings.
"We will tune on it again at Phoenix and get it better, but getting damaged at Nashville will keep us busy right up until we pull out for the Phoenix trip on Tuesday," Shepherd said. "Hopefully we can work on it during the speedway race week and have it ready to go like we want it for Richmond the following week."
