GALAX, VA - This year's Morgan Shepherd Charitable Fund mission trip to the Virginia mountains will carry a little star power, organizers say.
While final schedules have not been worked out, the public portion of the trip, typically held in Galax, Va., will be moved to an outside venue this year due to the much larger crowd which is expected. Previous shows were conducted in the Rex Theater in downtown Galax.
"We expect a large crowd and we are planning a very special program for those who can attend," said Morgan Shepherd, referring to a nationally-known musical act who will highlight the show. "We will have a guest list like we have not had in some time."
While a formal announcement is expected in early November, preliminary scheduling includes an appearance by NASCAR owner and former Super Bowl coach Joe Gibbs; TV commentator and former crew chief Larry McReynolds and various NASCAR stars, including Sprint Cup Chase Contender Carl Edwards.
Shepherd said he also expects several race cars and show cars from top NASCAR teams to be on display in downtown Galax for the December 14 event.
"Everbody still has to check their schedule and probably won't know for sure until after the season but we have invited a lot of fine people and many of them have said they plan to come."
