FORT WORTH, TX - Racing side-by-side with another car ended Morgan Shepherd's day in the O'Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon.
Racing with another lap car, Shepherd got tapped from behind by race leader Joey Logano, resulting in the #89 and the #0 cars being sent to the wall, ending their days.
"We were a lap down and the leader was coming. I should not have been in that situation. It was not the 18's fault. I just couldn't get up out of the way because the 0 car had me blocked in," Shepherd said.
The ensuing wreck knocked out both the 89 and 0 cars as the 18 scooted on by.
Shepherd said the car was damaged too severely to try to repair at the track and he had planned on running the car again at Homestead in two weeks.
"We are down to two races left and only one car so we need to get out of Phoenix without anything happening or we won't have car for Homestead."
